History

  • Legley completed this song cycle on poems by Jos Vandeloo on 15 March 1965 in Woluwe. The version for soprano and piano was composed first, the version for soprano and string quartet afterwards.
  • The string quartet version was first performed on 23 October 1965 in the Ypres city theatre during a concert celebrating Legley's fiftieth birthday. The performers were the soprano Raymonde Serverius and soloist of the Belgian Chamber Orchestra conducted by Georges Maes.[1]
