History

Legley chose two famous poems, Schaduw and Avondliedeken by Alice Nahon, for this opus.
Legley completed the songs at the end of August 1984. He considered the second song as the successor to his youth composition on the same text from 1933.
The songs were first performed by Ria Bollen and Jozef De Beenhouwer on a recording for the Belgian radio channel BRT-3 in 1985 or 1986, in a version for alto and piano.^[1]
