History

  • This radio play is based on the book of the same name by Karel Van de Woestijne in a adaptation by Herman Teirlinck.
  • Legley composed his work between 20 May and 14 June 1949 in Brussels. This version was broadcast for the first time in Augustus 1949.[1]
  • Later, Legley probably reworked the radio play [2] for a broadcast in March 1978, on the occasion of Karel Van de Woestijne's hundredth birthday.[3]
  • For this composition, Legley received a honorable mention in the first Prix Italia.[4][5]
