History

  • This radio play is based on the book of the same name by Karel Van de Woestijne in a adaptation by Herman Teirlinck.
  • Legley composed the work between 20 May and 14 June 1949 in Brussels. In this version it was broadcasted for the first time 4 October 1949 on Zender Brussel.[1] On 31 January 1950, this radio play was broadcasted in French on Radio Bruxelles,[2]on 22 April 1950 possibly in Italian on the station Turin II.[3]
  • Later Legley presumably reworked the play[4] for a broadcast in March 1978, on the occasion of Karel Van de Woestijne's 100th birthday.[5]
  • For this work Legley received an honourable mention at the very first Prix Italia.[1][6]
