History
- On 18 July 1955, Legley started to rework his Fanfare d'hommage Béla Bartók into a string quartet, which he completed on 20 October 1956. Initially, Legley wrote the work for the Paganini quartet that wanted to play a new work by a Belgian composer in the United States in February 1956.[1] This plan apparently could not be fulfilled, since Legley completed his string quartet only in October of that year.
