*Legley probably started composing this work on 30 July 1943, the day the final round for the [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prix_de_Rome_%28Belgium%29 Prix de Rome] began that year. He subsequently had 30 days to finish his cantata.<ref>Anonymous: ''Uitslag van den schiftingswedstrijd van den «Prijs van Rome» voor muziek'' in ''Het Vlaamsche Land'' and ''Gazet van Mechelen'' of 29 July 1943, each time p.2.</ref> He obtained the second prize.
