== History ==
*Legley composed his last string quartet at the request of the ''String Quartet Eugène Ysaye''<ref name="one">[[De Roeck/en|De Roeck]], p.558.</ref> and completed it on 14 August 1990 (see below for details).<ref>Autograph: ''Malgré tout''.</ref>
*On 12 November 1990, at the opening concert of the National Music Competition of the Gemeentekrediet, the quartet was performed for the first time by the ''String Quartet Eugène Ysaye''<ref>The members of this quartet were Jenny Spanoghe (violin), Bart Lemmens (violin), Paul Klinck (viola) and Rigo Messens (cello).</ref> in the city theatre of Kortrijk.<ref name="one"/>
