*Legley chose for this work the poem ''Het lied van 't Maagdelijn''<ref>Here and there Legley changed the text in his composition.</ref> by [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karel_Lodewijk_Ledeganck Karel-Lodewijk Ledeganck].<ref>K.L.Ledeganck & J.F.J.Heremans (Ghent, 1883): [http://www.dbnl.org/arch/lede003gedi01_01/pag/lede003gedi01_01.pdf ''Gedichten van K.L.Ledeganck met eene levensschets des dichters''], pp.VIII en 223. According to this publication, Ledeganck's poem is based on a poem in French by the Belgian poet [https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/André_Van_Hasselt André Van Hasselt] (1806-1874).</ref>
*Nothing is known about the composition process, but it is certain that the ballad was registered by SABAM on 9 March 1948.<ref>Stamp on the soprano part (cf. ''sources'').</ref>
*During the Ledeganck commemoration in the Ghent Conservatory on 23 November 1947, this composition was performed for the first time by the choir of the B.N.R.O. (the present [https://www.vlaamsradiokoor.be Vlaams Radiokoor]) conducted by Jan Van Bouwel.<ref>Anonymous: ''Ledeganckherdenking'' in ''De Gentenaar'' of 22 November 1947, p.7. The announcements refer to the ''first performance in Belgium'' of Legley's composition, which suggests that the work had already been performed outside Belgium. Any trace of a performance abroad could not be found.</ref>
