Jean-Baptiste Colyns was a child prodigy on the violin, entering [[Nicolas Lambert Wéry |Nicoals Lambert Wéry]]'s class at the Brussels Royal Conservatory at a very early age.  He received his diploma at the age of 16 and began teaching six years later, first as an assistant and climbing to the position of professor of violin and instrumental chamber music before he retired at 1902. His teaching at the Brussels Conservatory was interrupted for one year in 1873 and in 1888 he was named violin teacher in the Antwerp Royal Conservatory. He was also active as a conductor and a soloist touring England, France, Germany and the NetherlandsHis compositions are mostly salon pieces for violin as well as a violin concerto and two operas.

Jean-Baptiste Colyns

Jean-Baptiste Colyns (25 November 1834 - 31 October 1902) was a Belgian violinist, violin teacher and conductor.

Biography

Jean-Baptiste Colyns was a child prodigy on the violin, entering Nicoals Lambert Wéry's class at the Brussels Royal Conservatory at a very early age. He received his diploma at the age of 16 and began teaching six years later, first as an assistant and climbing to the position of professor of violin and instrumental chamber music before he retired at 1902. His teaching at the Brussels Conservatory was interrupted for one year in 1873 and in 1888 he was named violin teacher in the Antwerp Royal Conservatory. He was also active as a conductor and a soloist touring England, France, Germany and the Netherlands. His compositions are mostly salon pieces for violin as well as a violin concerto and two operas.
