History
- This song is a youthful work by Legley, of which only an incomplete autograph has been preserved.[1] It was composed in a late romantic idiom, probably in the 1930s.
- The text comes from the Beatrice fragments of Prosper van Langendonck. Possibly the choice of text was influenced by Beatrix Souvage, whom Legley married in 1939.
