- According to the first edition of this work, Legley composed these portraits in December 1954 and January 1955 (see below for details).
- The first performance was given in January or early February 1956 by Myriam van Ruyskensvelde at the 24th session of the Centre des premières auditions in the salons of Mr. and Mrs. Quinet-Migliarèse.[1]
